When you live this close to the water, it’s a crime not to be able to see it!!
The Vision
David & Caroline wanted to double the size of their single level home to accommodate Caroline’s mother who was moving in with them so Caroline could be closer and help care for her mum, they wanted to keep the cottage coastal feel of the home and have a space were her mum could feel safe and independent to them.
The Problem
The property was on a very steep narrow block, and they had limited space to extend out.
Behind the property was the rail corridor that runs along the escarpment fringe.
The Process
It was decided the only way to get additional self-contained space was up, so a second-floor addition was designed whilst respecting the original era of the house. The stairs to access the upper floor had to be meticulously designed and to incorporate a stair lift access for Caroline’s mother to get up to the top floor which was made adaptable with wider doors and circulation spaces.
Whilst construction was underway David and Caroline relocated so this was important that we complete the project within the set timeframe, they enjoyed being involved and constantly informed on progress with photos and onsite meetings.
The Result
"We can thoroughly recommend Keiron and CKS Projects. Our project involved adding a second storey to a three-bedroom cottage, converting it into a spacious 5-bedroom, 3-bathroom family home. We had tricky site access and a tight time frame. We interviewed several building companies before our architect suggested we speak to CKS. Right from our first meeting Keiron proved to be an excellent, straight forward communicator with meticulous attention to detail. During the construction phase we were impressed with his pro-active suggestions and his capacity for onsite problem solving. His crew were efficient and organised and a pleasure to have around. Our project came in on time and on budget and we are thrilled with the result"
