Perched on a steep escarpment site overlooking the ocean at Coledale in the northern Illawarra, Elanora Four is a considered home renovation that shows what's possible when designer and a builder work as one.
Designed by Alex Urena Design Studio and delivered by CKS Projects, the brief was to transform an ageing coastal home into a refined contemporary residence that celebrates proportion, natural light and its connection to the surrounding landscape. The result is a whole-of-home transformation that respects the original footprint while completely reimagining how the home lives.
A Complete Renovation, Interior Refurbishment and Rear Extension
The scope brought together several disciplines under a single, carefully managed build. Rather than a cosmetic update, this was a structural and spatial reworking of the home from the arrival experience down to the living areas below.
The project included:
A complete interior refurbishment, reworking the internal layout, finishes, joinery and detailing throughout
An expanded rear living area and new balcony that open the home to bushland and ocean views
A new timber-clad garage that anchors the street presence and frames the entry
A considered arrival sequence and timber walkway linking the street above to the home below
Inspired by the concept of rhythm, the rear elevation is composed through balanced proportions and paired timber posts that create a calm architectural cadence while framing expansive bushland and ocean outlooks. Every material selection, from the timber cladding to the interior finishes, was chosen to sit comfortably within its coastal setting and to age gracefully in the escarpment environment.
